R & R (Retreat and Round Tables) at Stanford Sierra Conference Center – October 2020

Date(s) - 10/23/2020 - 10/25/2020
3:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Stanford Sierra Conference Center
130 Fallen Leaf Road - South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150

Unfortunately (but appropriately), the Stanford Sierra Conference Center is closed until further notice as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The October Retreat and Roundtables event has been canceled.

At this uncertain time, we are not able to secure a future date for the retreat. We are on a waiting list with the venue and hope to reschedule the event for 2021. We hope you will join us then!

What is R & R?

R & R usually stands for “rest and recreation,” but we’re adding a couple of R’s of our own: Retreat and Roundtables! This event will be the perfect combination of all four R’s, and it’s only available to SCBWI members.

Join us for our first ever, completely customizable, (hopefully annual) retreat at Stanford Sierra Conference Center. Enjoy 2 nights/3 days (with an option to add Thursday night) at the beautiful Fallen Leaf Lake. Activities will range from social hours, to impromptu critique groups, to an illustration station and inviting writing nook, to optional add-on roundtable critiques with our faculty. Whether or not you opt for a roundtable critique, you’ll enjoy time with faculty at meals and socials during this small, intimate retreat.

R & R Faculty

Our three faculty members will provide feedback during optional roundtable critique groups (cost: $50). For more details about faculty and roundtables, please click here.

R & R Lodging

The Stanford Sierra Conference Center lodging cost includes three meals a day, plus coffee and tea, as well as several outdoor activities. Lodging choices include single or shared rooms in the main lodge or cabins. Private (single person) cabins are available for an extra $120. For more details about lodging, please click here.

General Schedule

Because our schedule will be influenced by the number of attendees/roundtables, the full schedule will be determined at a later date. Registration and Pricing

This event is available to SCBWI members only. Spaces are limited, so register early! Even if you choose not to participate in any of the scheduled activities, the programming fee for all participants is $100. Depending on your lodging choice, the total cost will be $602 – $844. Add a faculty led roundtable critique for $50. Add the optional Thursday night for the cost of one night’s lodging with no extra fees. Registration closes on August 31, 2020 at 11:59pm.

Payment by Check: You may opt to pay by PayPal or by check. If you are paying by check, please mail it to P.O. Box 1017, Davis, CA, 95617 with no signature required. Your check must be received within 5 business days of your registration date. We are unable to hold spots pending payment for longer than that. If your check is not received in time, your registration will be cancelled. (We are doing this to be fair, given the small number of spots.) Your check will clear within one week of receipt, so you will know it was received.

Cancellation Policy: A full refund less a $30 processing fee will be granted through July 31st. From August 1st through August 31st, a 50% refund will be offered IF we can fill your spot using the waiting list. Otherwise, no refund will be granted. No refunds will be offered after August 31st. There are NO refunds for roundtable critique groups regardless of cancellation date. We are a nonprofit organization, and our region is run completely by volunteers. Refunds create additional paperwork, time, and PayPal fees for the region, so we thank you for understanding this non-negotiable cancellation policy.
