Conference update (12/12/16): All of our faculty manuscript critique spots for picture books sold out within one week! We are happy to announce we have brought on multi-published authors Erin Dealey and Bitsy Kemper to help critique picture book manuscripts for those registering after mid December 2016. Erin and Bitsy will be offering manuscript critiques for picture books only (the rest of the faculty will continue to critique as noted on the bio page).

Whether you are just beginning your writing or illustrating career, or you’re a PAL, or you’re somewhere in between, this conference is for you! Join us for a full day of learning, inspiration, networking, and fun. Our 13th annual Spring Spirit Conference promises to be as exciting as ever; three editors, two literary agents, an art director, three amazing authors, and a professional photographer will share their knowledge and skills so you can take your work to the next level!

THE FINE PRINT IN NOT SO FINE PRINT:

1. No walk-ins. Everyone must pay in advance. We accept PayPal and check payments. Checks should be payable to SCBWI CA North/Central. Please send checks to PO Box 4516, El Dorado Hills, CA 95762. Deadline to register is March 17, 2017.

2. Written manuscript critiques will be available for an extra $45 fee for members only. You may request your top three readers and we'll do our best, but cannot guarantee your choices. Assignments are first-come, first-served based on your registration date. Spaces are limited. Faculty members will select up to 3 authors to meet with face-to-face on conference day. Payment and manuscripts must be received by 2/10/17. See the link at the top right for details.

3. Face-to-face portfolio critiques for illustrators will be available to members for an extra $45 fee. Assignments are first-come, first-served based on your registration date. Spaces are limited. Register and pay by 3/3/17. See the link at the top right for details.

4. Headshots are available to members for an extra $35 fee. Spaces are limited. Register and pay by 3/3/17. See the link at the top right for details.

5. The Portfolio Showcase is another opportunity for illustrators, and is offered at no charge. See the link at the top right for details.

6. CANCELLATION POLICY: A full refund less a $30 processing fee will be granted before February 15, 2017. From February 16, 2017 on, a 50% refund will be offered IF we can fill your spot using the waiting list. Otherwise, no refund will be granted. There are no refunds for manuscript or portfolio critiques regardless of cancellation date. We are a nonprofit organization, and our region is run completely by volunteers. Refunds create more paperwork and take more time than you can imagine, so we thank you for understanding this nonnegotiable cancellation policy.

Additionally, the material in all handouts and presentations is copyrighted and may not be reprinted, blogged, written, orally transmitted, and/or reproduced without written permission of the copyright holder ONLY. [One of the reasons you pay a lot of money to attend this conference in person is to gain “inside” information. Please don't share it with people that didn't attend.]
